Little Crystal Creek was a family favourite when I was little. And it's not hard to see why. I haven't been back there in years, despite it being only a 45 minute drive from our house. When I was a kid I was more interested in swimming and sliding on the rocks and trying to avoid being drowned by my older brothers. Yesterday, we three simply soaked up the beautiful scenery and fresh mountain air. I was really able to appreciate how beautiful this little part of the world is - that gorgeous old stone bridge - which as a kid I never gave a second glance.

It was our first family day trip, just the three of us - no brothers, sisters, cousins, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles - just us. Paddy made soup the night before - sweet potato and bacon. On the way we stopped off for some fresh bread (the last hurrah before I conquer my carb addiction). We took a little gas cooker and stove top coffee and made a day out of it. Of course, Lalie's attention was centered firmly on scrub turkeys and trying to eat paper. I hope when she's older, she'll return here one day to have a second glance at that bridge.

I love sharing those experiences from when I was a kid, with my kids. Don't you wish every weekend was spent on adventures such as this? xx

Ps That soup and crusty bread looks divine...even if my husband would shudder at that butter allocation. ;-)
