This morning I took this sad sack outdoors to see if a couple of hacky sacks and some furry friends could distract her from the teeth bearing down on her little gums. Sometimes I think I'd be lost without these two pups of ours. So far they've proven to be the perfect remedy and distraction for just about anything.

A bumped head? - "Where's Millie and Dottie?"

Teething torture? "C'mon doggies, lets play!"

Overtired and won't settle? "Lets go out and see what the special dogs are up to..."

Their names are Millie and Dot, but we call them "The Special Dogs" - because that's exactly what they are. Lalie is fascinated by dogs and shrieks and squeals with delight if we come accross other pooches while we're out - she won't let up on the squealing until she's taken over to meet them. It's obvious we've got a little animal lover on our hands.

Are there any special animals in your life?

* Millie is the beagle x cavalier aka 'Big Spesh' and Dot is the poodle x cavalier aka 'Little Spesh'.
* 'Sailor Spesh' romper found at an op shop for fifty cents.

  3. Both hubby and I grew up with dogs and when we moved to Brisbane we adopted a 9mth old..all the hard work as far as training was done and she is such a treasure.
I agree wholeheartedly about the great distraction that pets can be...we have used our girl at times in the exact same way :)
    Love Lalie's outfit.

  5. Aw she's too cute in that sailor romper! I don't have any pets here, but i love my dad's dog Scout like she's my child. Every time my dad and i skype i make him bring her up to the screen so i can 'talk' to her :)

  6. We have a big old black cat and a big old ridgeback x rotti dog, Seth and Odin, both of whom Cohen adores. They tolerate him so well and are so protective of him. Their distraction qualities have come in very handy over the years as well. :)

  8. We have a gorgeous old dog named Fraser that we saved from a very sad fate.
He basically lies in the sun till he gets too hot and then he moves onto our cold slate floors to cool down, and then he repeats this over and over till bed time.
He is about 10 or 11 years old we think and if kids come over to play that aren't so sure about dogs my kids tell them not to worry because he is as old as a grandpa!
Your dogs sound like the perfect addition to your gorgeous family!

  10. I must start thrifting, that is a beautiful romper ... even better that it was 50cents!!!

I can't wait to have children, our pup (a weimaraner) is so patient with kids and so protective of babies. He will be the perfect company for late night feeds.

  11. Oh my that is one of the cutest little outfits I've seen your little sweetie. I hope she feels better after going outside playing with those two spesh puppies of yours. We have two furry friends, my dear old persian cat who turns 17 this year and our doggie Molly, maltese poodle cross. The girls adore her, she's so much fun to have around. Have a wonderful weekend. xx

  13. Oh I LOVE her romper. Love her chubba legs and love those dogs. And the necklace... we broke ours a couple of weeks ago. I swear I cried, which is just silly, really.

We share our neighbours pets. Their cat Tilly (Tiiyyeee!) spends more time at our place. And the dog Gus (size of a horse) and the guniea pig Morris which we're often in charge of looking after. Actually, it's very easy pet ownership for us right now. All the fun stuff without vet bills and food! (Except for cleaning up Tilly's 'offerings'...)

whoa Nelly. another epic comment ;)

  14. Gorgeous snaps! My 16 month old is also quite taken with doggies at the moment... my eldest has always been quite petrified of them!
We met a couple of cuties at the park today and my little man was thoroughly impressed :o) xo

  15. Holy cow, how great is that outfit? I love it. We used to have a kitty, but when the baby arrived 15 months ago she couldn't adjust to being second-best...so after some chronic bad behavior we had to give her up for adoption :( Just the other night we were talking about when little M will start asking for a pet!

  16. I really, really like that romper. Not just really. Like, really really. No special animals here. Oli has almost convinced us to get him a bird for Xmas. Totally ape over the feathery little dudes. But is it wrong to keep a bird in a cage? Would love to get a dog but not until we own a house. Which will probably be never. Sigh. Aveagoodweekend. xx

  18. love the romper Claire.

Our pooches are everything to us and our little man. Yes they have been his best buddies so far. And even though he has beenr recently been attacked by local ppotty dog jack russel, he still wants to go up and pat every single dog we spy.

Missing the tropical weather down here.

    Much love to you

  19. man. romper envy is not a pretty thing. your blog makes me green with it! our kelpie/border collie is about the only creature who can keep up with piper nowadays. she is the same, flips out to see dogs anywhere and must. pat (poke in eyes) them. am sure they are terrified!
    cute pups, x ashley

  23. i think i just did a lalie and squealed over that little romper! you and jodi are the ones that inspired me to start collecting little lady clothes because your girls are just so divine and wear vintage so well. puppies and babies are the best combo. there are photos of me as a bub feeding crayons to our dalmation and he just took all the baby battering and pestering without blinking an eyelid. gorgeous photos claire, as always. x

  25. My little guy T looooves animals too, all sorts but especially dogs. I would love to get him one but we have no garden and I just don't think it would be fair to a pooch.

He has adopted his auntie's dog Luna who he calls Oona and she is a wonderful distraction.

    Your little ones are gorgeous!

  28. Love the romper and love love the special dogs! We have a fox terrier cross (well that's what we assume he is) and he came to us from the shelter a few years back and he had a terrible time when we brought our baby home. He's not fond of change, any type of change being a shelter dog and second because every time I tried to feed my bub she just cried and cried. This made our dog Max very anxious. But things have settled down now and he loves curling up next to me while I feed Zoe. And Zouzou keeps following him with her gaze and sometimes just stares at him intently for ages. I hope this is the beginning of a true friendship.
