here and now

You would think, after a month long blogging break, I'd have something a bit more exciting to talk about than the weather.

Apparently not.

May, you are simply beautiful. Please stay like this forever. Warm enough to splash in salty water, yet just cool enough to slip on vintage woolens that have been stashed away for what seemed like an eternal Summer (this stripey number is on loan from Lalie's cousins).

These photos were taken at Townsville's main beach (don't bother stopping here if you fancy a surf!). Despite sometimes feeling isolated and uninspired in this largely suburban town, the view to Magnetic Island accross a tranquil ocean that gleams like a sheet of glass never fails to fill me with pure wonder. As I watch my daughter play quietly in the sand I find myself starting to appreciate this beautiful place for all that it has to offer - space, air, quiet, calm. For the first time in a long time I think I am starting to feel settled, or at least comfortably paused here in this sleepy town for the next few chapters.

  13. What a lovely post Claire. You certainly paint a very enticing picture of your beautiful town. And these shots only add weight to your case, it looks like a gorgeous place to raise children. Loving Lalie's knit, so pretty.

  17. this is beautiful claire. it is this time of year in melb that I always begin to think about moving north (3/4 of my family are in southern qld). I have been feeling uninspired and stagnant lately.. this post makes me yearn (even more) for a warmer space - with air that doesn't cut like ice but is comfortable enough to walk and play in, not lock ourselves indoors and need lights on during the day.. x

  20. Hello Claire, I just found you via Milk Please Mum. My husband and I are on our honeymoon, working and traveling around Australia for an indefinite period of time, at the moment we're in central west Qld working on a cattle station - next stop Townsville and Cairns! Can't wait to hit the beaches and warmer weather, so very cold here in the inland brrrrr...

  22. Oh Claire, it's so good to hear you're feeling settled in your space. After visiting Melbourne I returned with a greater gratitude for our quiet little life - it's perfect for raising young children. Although I still love the idea of Tassie.

Gosh I wished we lived a little closer to each other...for the company and the borrowing of little vintage knits ;) x

  23. Lovely, beautiful photos. There is plenty to love where you are, I love your home, and the way you can be outside all the time. I love my home state, but around this time of year it can be a bit tough. Cold, grey, wet & muddy. Dark around 5pm.
