on an island in the sun

It was Father's Day morning, the clock had not yet struck seven as the three of us lay curled up in bed deciding how we would spend the day. I had made no plans for Father's Day - to be honest, it had completely snuck up on me and I hadn't so much as organised a card (I know, I know. Bad wife!).

We aren't exactly spontaneous types, but the idea of moping around the house all day deciding what to do didn't really appeal to either of us. So we made a snap decision to jump out of bed, shower, pack a beach bag and race to the morning ferry.

It had been almost a year since our last visit to Magnetic Island (or Maggie as us locals affectionately call her), the place we were married almost three years ago.

It seems each time we visit her, she's more beautiful than the last. This is paradise - right on our door-step - a mere 25 minute boat ride away.

  14. I grew up learning to sail around maggie and the moles. At just ten years of age on the helm of our little 28ft timber yacht, I learnt how to negotiate the huge tides and currents of the Whitsunday Islands. Magnetic Island was always my favourite, thinking that all the rich people got to go there and lay in the sun and be waited on......such memories. Last month I sailed the whitsunday regatta's, I never missed a beat, I know those waters like the back of my hand. Lovely pics and I agree the best made plans are non.
