Tasmania in pictures | Bruny Island

We spent a couple of days on Bruny Island, a spectacular part of the world that we'd definitely like to revisit one day and explore a little further. We didn't brave the water even though it looked so beautiful and inviting; those turquoise waves were too icy for us Queenslanders... even in mid-summer!

We stopped for freshly shucked oysters and then again a few meters down the road for artisan cheese (made on the island) and the most delicious wood fired baguettes. We sat around the campfire, slurping back beer and oysters and listening to waves and birdsong. It was a trip highlight for me, bettered only by our visit to Cradle Mountain (photos to come!).

  1. Isn't Bruny beautiful. Is Coles Bay on your list? Lovely photos. xx

    1. We did go to Coles Bay but didn't venture into the national park of walk to wineglass bay (which I think is supposed to be the best part!). We had just done a lot of walking the day before at Cradle Mtn so decided to save another big walk for another trip!

  13. Claire, this is a silly question I'm sure - but we've long wanted to do the campervan thing. Do you have to book into campsites around the island or did you just stop anywhere? Mind you, did yours have a shower? Just wouldn't want to be stuck in busy campgrounds, but more on our own...

    1. Hi Victoria - we just called ahead to the next place as we were leaving the previous place. We'd just tell the site manager that we were on our way. That way, they hold a spot for you. We didn't find it particularly busy... I would definitely advise to book for Cradle Mountain though as there is only one site up there. As for the shower, our van did have one but we tended not to use it as all the camp facilities are vey good and much more spacious/comfortable and you don't have to clean yours!

    2. Thanks - that's useful. Let me know if there were any particularly good ones. That spot on Bruny looked lovely.

  22. These are just stunning. We have been talking about a trip to Tassie for so long, these images just make me desperate to go. How did you find campervanning with the girls? We have a 3.5 year old and a 3 month old and I'm curious as to how we would handle it.
